The heart of Las Vegas beats with a vibrancy that's unmatched, yet within its pulse, there's a silent echo of those grappling with mental health challenges, often without the aid of a supportive community. I'm Chuck Stutz, and I've called this glittering city home for over 15 years, alongside my husband Andrew and our spirited dog, Gizmo. Our commitment to Las Vegas extends beyond its bright lights; we're devoted to touching lives through various nonprofit engagements, particularly those that champion mental wellness for every individual in our community.

These profound words by Buddha capture the essence of the journey we undertake at the Community Counseling Center of Southern Nevada.

According to a 2023 report, Nevada ranks 8th worst in the nation for mental health care access — with nearly two-thirds of people with a mental health issue not receiving care. This staggering statistic and its impact in the rise of homelessness and addiction in the Las Vegas Valley demands our attention and commitment to action.

Growing up in Las Vegas, I faced personal challenges with depression in high school and the lack of resources and accessibility prevented me from receiving support. It wasn’t until leaving Nevada for college that I found the care I needed. It was during this time that my desire for a world where every individual is empowered, supported, and celebrated in their unique journey toward emotional well-being began to form.

I have proudly called Las Vegas my home for over three decades—a city as complex and dynamic as the people within it. It's a place that has afforded me not only a vibrant career but also a chance to engage deeply with the community through service and philanthropy. My journey with the Community Counseling Center of Southern Nevada (CCC) is a deeply personal narrative, one that intertwines my professional aspirations with a commitment to personal growth and community betterment.

Growing up in a small town in rural Central Washington, I remember my parents and everyone around me saying this anytime someone said something hurtful or were bullying me. It did absolutely nothing for me and I always thought it was such a broken idea. Words can be very hurtful. Sometimes words can be more hurtful than a stick or a stone ever could be.
